School Safety Zone Program
& Red Light Enforcement
Pawtucket - Rhode Island
About The Program
Each year, too many families are
affected by crashes caused by speeding
or running red lights. Sadly, the victims
of traffic crashes are often occupants of
other vehicles or pedestrians who
happen to be in the intersection or near
the road.
Improving traffic safety is one of the
strategic goals of the Pawtucket Police
Department.
That is why I am so pleased to report that
after much input from the community, we
will be installing a traffic enforcement
system in Pawtucket.
This state-of-the-art system is designed to
help us encourage safer driving habits and
improve traffic flow. Best of all, it can
help us save lives!
- Chief Tina Goncalves
How does the program work?
Red Light Enforcement System
The intersection photo enforcement system operates ONLY when the traffic
light is red, capturing evidence of actual violations.
The camera captures two photographic images and video of the alleged red light
violation:
1. The first image provides a view of the vehicle BEFORE crossing the
white stop line, while showing that the traffic light is red.
2. The second image provides a view of the vehicle AFTER crossing the
white stop line, demonstrating that the vehicle proceeded through the
intersection while the traffic light remained red.
Speed Enforcement System
The speed photo enforcement system captures evidence of vehicles traveling in
excess of the posted speed limit in designated enforcement locations during
designated school days between the hours of 7am thru 6pm.
The camera system captures two photographic images and video, as well as a speed
measurement of the alleged violation.
How is it determined whether or not a violation actually
occurred, and how is the owner notified?
Alleged violations are reviewed by a police officer to determine the validity of
the violation. If the officer determines that a violation has occurred, a notice of
violation, otherwise known as a Citation, will be issued and mailed to the
registered owner of the vehicle.

within fourteen (14) days of the violation.

The notice will include information on how a citizen can pay the Citation, as well as how the citizen may view images of the
violation by utilizing the online payment portal; www.viewcitation.com. Citizens will have until the court date listed on their
