Misunderstanding regarding the Compounding of Expired Driving License
Road Transport Department (RTD) would like to clarify that the brochure below is about
the OFFENSE OF DRIVING WITHOUT A VALID AND EXPIRED DRIVING LICENSE
under Section 26 (1) of the 1987 Road Transport Act.
Therefore, motorists or motorcyclists found driving or riding without a driving
license or an expired driver's license will be fined a maximum of RM300.
The amount of this compound is the maximum rate, however, if the offender settles the
compound within the stipulated period, the reduced fee is offered according to the
schedule as follows:

With this, any renewal of expired driving licenses at RTD counters can be done at all
RTD offices or agencies appointed without paying the fine. The license renewal is
subject to a driving license which expired not more than three (3) years.
RTD would like to advise the public not to be easily influenced and believe any
messages via social media and WhatsApp applications that does not have a valid
source. If in doubt the public is advised to refer directly to this department and do not
participate in spreading misconceptions.
